In spring 2019 the Celonis Academic Alliance contacted my university - As I am involved in business process management affairs (at university and in practice) for more than 25 years I realized that Process Mining - offered in this way - unleashes an unbelievable potential for optimization. Celonis seems to enchant the world of business.
Within the academic world Process Mining, designed and elaborated by Wil van der Aalst, has already made its way and is well recognized. However, it is a huge step to establish even a great approach like this in the world of practice. Many years before I took part in applying SAP R/3 business process models in companies, based on August-Wilhelm Scheer´s ARIS concept. Now it is obvious that the Celonis tool fills probably the missing link to a real breakthrough in business process optimization: It offers the creation of a neatless 360° view from as-is models (eventually based on multi-event-logs) to a frictionless end-to-end process as the to-be state.
At Pforzheim university, we started the collaboration in the Master Information System (MIS) program with Celonis by creating a case study about Process Mining and Robotic Process Automation. As this revealed to be a real success story the co-operation meanwhile is spread over four courses, including lectures, workshops, and case study processing in different domains. And wow – the story has just begun…
