Learn from last year’s winner Ocado

Ocado, an online grocery retailer, won last year's Process Earth Sprint to optimize its fleet and reduce carbon emissions, focusing on their unique "Ocado Way" supply chain that differs from conventional retail by using central fulfillment centers directly delivering to customers. The problem identified was a total of 25kg CO2 emissions per order, broken down into 3kg from inbound logistics and 4kg from outbound logistics.

Utilizing Celonis, Ocado implemented a solution by adjusting delivery zones. This initiative resulted in a reduction of total CO2 emissions per order to 20.7kg, with inbound logistics at 2.5kg CO2 per order and outbound at 3.3kg CO2 per order. Short-term goals include adjusting delivery zones for sustainability and prioritizing zones for electrification, while long-term objectives focus on broader fleet optimization.
