Celosphere 2022: ALDI SÜD runs more than 2 billion transactions in Celonis

ALDI SÜD has launched its first real-time Celonis Execution Management app for its daily supply chain process performance as part of its broader digital transformation efforts.

Speaking at Celosphere 2022, Thomas Weiprecht, Head of CoE Business Process Management at ALDI SÜD, and David Heise, Process Mining Lead at the retailer, outlined Celonis EMS role in its digital transformation. ALDI SÜD is currently transforming its business and technology infrastructure with SAP S/4HANA.

The goal of ALDI SÜD's digital transformation is to replace custom IT, adopt best practice processes, protect and enhance its "ALDI SÜD efficiency." So far, ALDI SÜD has redesigned more than 400 business processes.

How ALDI SÜD plans to turn sustainability and logistics into a win-win

Celonis was adopted in 2020 to monitor ALDI SÜD's digital transformation and accelerate process excellence. From 2020 to 2021, ALDI SÜD scaled Celonis Process Mining from two processes to the entire value chain with a business process Center of Excellence (CoE). Today, Celonis and ALDI SÜD are strategic partners focused on expanding the potential of Celonis Execution Management System (EMS).

Here's ALDI SÜD’s Celonis deployment by the numbers:

  • 16 systems connected to Celonis.

  • 23 processes and use cases in Celonis.

  • More than 2 billion transactions handled in Celonis.

  • €3.1 million in value realized and costs avoided.

Weiprecht and Heise noted that ALDI SÜD has more projects on the runway focused on everything from order fulfillment to store checkout, sourcing, and sustainability.

Other key points from the ALDI SÜD session:

  • ALDI SÜD has created a end-to-end process dashboard in Celonis that provides business transition KPIs, actionable insights and multiple processes tied to success factors for the retailer's digital transformation.

  • The dashboard provides visualizations by country and country benchmark as well as targets, previous period and trends. Users can also deep dive on KPIs and root causes and trigger actions.

  • ALDI SÜD has seen strong adoption in the Celonis dashboard with 165 active business transition users and 9 new initiatives requested.

  • Weiprecht and Heise noted that the Celonis partnership is just beginning with more opportunities to add additional value, KPIs and automation.
