Celonis Enables thyssenkrupp Rasselstein to Drive Supply Chain Transparency and Efficiency with Process Intelligence
MUNICH and NEW YORK, June 17, 2025 – Celonis, a global leader in Process Mining, is collaborating with thyssenkrupp Rasselstein, one of Europe’s largest manufactures of premium packaging steel, to optimize its supply chain with AI and Process Intelligence. By establishing a data-driven, connected supply chain, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein can proactively mitigate supply risks, enhance delivery reliability, and optimize core processes.
"Our partnership with thyssenkrupp Rasselstein highlights how Celonis helps companies turn complex, fragmented supply chains into intelligent, connected ecosystems,” said Florian Schewior, Managing Director DACH at Celonis. “By embedding AI and process intelligence into the fabric of supply operations, our customers stay agile, can better master disruptions and run more resilient, efficient value chains.”
“Before Celonis, we had limited visibility into our supply chain, which made it difficult to react quickly to supply disruptions. Now, we have a real-time overview of our processes, allowing us to manage risks proactively, reduce excess inventory, and improve our delivery reliability. This enables us to make better strategic decisions and ensures seamless production planning,” said Dr. Michael Pullen, CFO of thyssenkrupp Rasselstein.
Turning Complexity into Clarity
With over 250 years of industrial history and more than 400 customers across 80+ countries, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein operates in a highly complex landscape. Its production site – the world’s largest of its kind – in Andernach, Germany relies on more than 300 interconnected systems, underscoring the operational complexity and potential for process fragmentation. This is even more critical as many key processes involve its parent company, thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, which supplies thyssenkrupp Rasselstein with most of its raw material.
To stay ahead of the competition and meet the evolving demands of the global steel industry, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein is driving continuous digitalization and process optimization, with an emphasis on enhancing its supply chain efficiency. The company had three major objectives:
Reduce manual effort and raise productivity
Optimize working capital
Improve delivery reliability for the company’s end customers
With Celonis, it was able to achieve real-time visibility into material flows and as a result, better anticipate supply risks and ensure planning stability.
From Real-Time Data to Measurable Impact
Since implementing Celonis in 2022, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein has built a digital twin of its supply chain, connecting data from thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, with its own internal production planning systems. This gives stakeholders a single source of truth for easy-to-action insights. Celonis is now live across more than ten processes and supports over 50 use cases, including procure-to-pay (P2P), order-to-cash (O2C), inventory and warehouse management, as well as accounts receivable.
With Celonis thyssenkrupp Rasselstein has achieved significant improvements, including:
Proactive prevention of material shortages, allowing timely interventions by anticipating potential disruptions.
Improved delivery accuracy and on-time predictions, resulting in enhanced customer satisfaction.
Optimized safety stock levels, reducing excess inventory while ensuring production continuity.
Double-digit million savings potential in working capital, driven by more efficient inventory management and streamlined financial processes.
The company has implemented Celonis Action Flows to automate routine tasks such as purchase order creation, increasing efficiency and freeing up resources for more strategic activities.
Driving Innovation and AI Adoption
AI has also become an integral part of thyssenkrupp Rasselstein’s process optimization journey.
By deploying an AI-powered Celonis Copilot, the company empowers employees to interact intuitively with data and make faster, smarter decisions using natural-language queries – all without requiring advanced analytical expertise. For example, using a Celonis Process Copilot, workers at its production facilities can get near-real-time information on the availability of production materials.
Using AI and Celonis Process Orchestration, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein is minimizing scrap from unsold materials. The Celonis AI Annotation Builder automatically identifies the best customer for potentially scrap materials, with human-in-the-loop validation for adjustments. The Celonis Orchestration Engine then generates structured email offers, allowing customers to review, approve, reject, or modify an order for these materials with just one click. Customer decisions are captured, categorized, and analyzed for seamless follow-ups and continuous optimization.
This application of AI and Process Orchestration is a major step in embedding AI and process intelligence into daily operations, allowing thyssenkrupp Rasselstein to respond faster to changes and optimize decision-making across the organization.
“Process Intelligence enables companies to maximize the ROI of their AI solutions — especially in complex industrial settings like thyssenkrupp Rasselstein’s. By bringing together process intelligence and AI, we’re helping customers make smarter decisions today and create more intelligent supply chains tomorrow,” said Florian Schewior, Managing Director DACH at Celonis.
Looking ahead, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein is preparing the rollout of Object-Centric Process Mining (OCPM), which will provide an even more connected end-to-end view of its supply chain. This enhanced visibility will drive further improvements in transparency and operational efficiency, reinforcing the company's commitment to continuous process optimization.
Beyond their internal transformation, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein and its Center of Excellence have become active contributors to innovation within both the thyssenkrupp group and the Celonis community.
